what do we do?
Cancer Screening
Cancer screening tests are best to do on a regular basis while you’re feeling well. We follow the Cancer Care Ontario Guidelines for cancer screening. Please contact us if you require one of the following:
+ Cervical Cancer
HPV testing is a method of cervical screening used to detect the HPV virus that causes cervical cancer.
It is recommended that women start screening at 25 years of age every 5 years (based on new HPV screening guidelines as of 2025).
+ Breast Cancer
Mammography is an x-ray of the breast that uses low doses of radiation. It can help find both cancerous (malignant) and non-cancerous (benign) tumours in the breast.
If you are a woman aged 50 - 74, Canadian screening guidelines recommend a mammogram every 2 years. Optional OBSP screening is available for women between 40-50 years old.
+ Colon Cancer
Colorectal cancer responds best to treatment when it is found and treated early. The new FIT test began 2019 and is a better and easier test than previously existed. Other screening options can be discussed with your physician.
If you are aged 50 - 74 and not at high risk for colorectal cancer, you should have a stool test every 2 years.
Nutrition Program
Our nutrition program consists of individual sessions with our registered dietitian. Our dietitian works with both adults and children/infants on the prevention and management of health conditions. For adults, you can see the dietitian for education and counselling on weight management, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, digestive concerns and meal planning/general healthy eating. For infants and children, the dietitian will address concerns with growth, meal planning and feeding difficulties (including picky eaters).
Upon receiving a referral from your physician, a one hour (60 minute) consult will be scheduled. During the initial consult, your goals will be discussed. The dietitian will ask you questions about your medical history, weight history, exercise profile and detailed questions about your eating patterns. You and the dietitian will establish some specific tasks to help you meet your goals. The number and frequency of follow up sessions (30 minutes in length) are individualized and will be decided in conjunction with the dietitian.
Nursing
We are fortunate to have excellent nursing service to support your care. From immunizations and allergy shots to dressing changes and suture removal to ear syringing and medical triaging, our nurse Avielyn provides essential nursing care to support our patients and our team.
Mental Health Program
Our Mental Health Program consists of two OHIP-covered services. Please speak with your family doctor if you are interested in either program as a referral from the GP is required.
Service Navigation: The goal of Service Navigation is to assist patients with connecting to agencies, programs, and services that promote their mental health and overall well-being. Areas of interest include: referrals or information for individuals, couples, or family therapy in the GTA, case management support, trauma or addiction services, etc.
Please note that it is up to the patient to follow through and contact the service provider.
Brief Individual Counselling : Goal of short-term counseling is to help patients aged 16+ gain a balanced perspective on life’s challenges and strengthen coping skills to maintain or improve mental health. This is best achieved by meeting consistently, utilizing a strength-based perspective as well as mindfulness and cognitive behavioural techniques. Please note that:
Due to the large volume of patients, your name will be placed on the wait list following the referral. Wait time varies and you will be contacted as soon as a spot becomes available
The counselling program is covered by OHIP and is eligible to registered patients of our clinic only
Depending on patient’s presenting (issue)s and therapeutic goals, short-term counseling is limited to six (6) to ten (10) sessions. If a patient requires additional assistance, referrals to appropriate community services may be provided
Majority of appointment availability is offered during the day. Commitment must be made to meet on a weekly basis to best benefit from the program
Chronic Disease Prevention and Management
Many people live full and active lives with a variety of health issues. While prevention is often the first goal, working with you, your family and other consultants and allied health providers to ensure your health condition is optimally managed is a primary focus in our practice. We strive to see you as a full person and understand your goals and wishes in providing the customized care you deserve. We work with you to support your health and provide you with the evidence-based guidance and treatments you can trust.
Consultation Services
We have developed an extensive network of specialist providers with whom we’ve worked over many years. Based on our assessments and discussions together, we can refer you to these colleagues.
IUD INSERTIONS
We provide hormonal (Mirena and Kyleena) and non-hormonal (Copper) IUD insertion and removal. This service is available to all patients of our clinic, as you can see another physician of the practice who performs this procedure in consultation.
Immunizations
Immunization is one of the most important and cost-effective public health innovations, contributing to reduction in morbidity and mortality in adults, children, and other vulnerable populations. At Woodbridge Family Physicians, we advocate for routine vaccination, travel vaccines, and specific vaccines to protect against disease. Our Registered Nurse, Physicians, and Nurse Practitioner possess a wealth of knowledge and can help you understand the risks and benefits of immunization.
+ Childhood Immunization
Getting your child vaccinated is one of the best ways to safeguard their health. The vaccination schedule is designed to protect your child before he/she is exposed to vaccine-preventable diseases and illness.

+ Adult Immunization
Immunizations are not just for kids. As adults, we require helper, or booster shots to maintain immunity and maintain protection against disease. Adults who were not adequately immunized as children may be at risk of infection from other vaccine-preventable disease. They can also infect others.

+ Flu Shots
Influenza vaccines, also known as flu shots, are vaccines which help protect against the seasonal flu. As the influenza virus changes rapidly, a new version of the vaccine is developed twice a year. While their effectiveness varies from year to year, most provide good to high protection against influenza.
Please contact our office if you have received the flu shot elsewhere so we can update our records.
Medication Renewal
We strive to give you extended amounts of the medications you need and encourage follow up at agreed upon intervals. When your medications run out and you have no further repeats, we generally encourage follow up in the office. If you need your medications renewed and can’t make it into the office, we will renew them for you for a limited number of times and for a nominal fee. This service cannot be applied to opioid analgesics or other controlled prescriptions.
Non-OHIP Services
While the Ontario Health Insurance Benefit (OHIP) program covers a core basket of healthcare needs, there are services that we provide that are not covered by the public health system. If there is a service that you are interested in is not covered by OHIP, you will be advised in advance of any costs that you will incur. These services include:
Cryotherapy (Liquid Nitrogen treatments)
Excision or cautery of cosmetic lesions
Medical forms for insurance, missing work, disability and others
Please ask our staff if the service you are requiring is covered by OHIP.
